Viessmann Area Business Manager, James Carter takes part in inaugural ‘Big Sleep Out’ at The John Smith’s Stadium to raise over £40,000 for homeless causes

Along with 150 other fundraisers, Viessmann Area Business Manager, James Carter spent the night sleeping in The John Smith’s Stadium, home of Huddersfield Town FC, to raise funds for homeless causes in the Kirklees area.

The inaugural ‘Big Sleep Out’ which took place on Friday 9th March, saw James, Huddersfield Town Chairman Dean Hoyle and Town Foundation Trustees Janet Hoyle, Sean Jarvis and Ann Hough, join local dignitaries and supporters to brave the elements and raise money for local homeless charities, including Huddersfield Mission.

As part of the ‘Big Sleep Out’, participants were given the option of sleeping either on the concourse or on the floor of the South End of the Kilner Bank stand, with most of those taking part opting to bed down on cardboard boxes between the seats overlooking the pitch.

Participants were asked to raise £100 to take part, with 100% of all money raised going directly to help causes. All other costs from the event were covered by Huddersfield Town Chairman, Dean Hoyle.

James said "It was an extremely cold and wet night, it rained all the way through the night and the only thing which kept me dry was some cardboard. I managed to get around 3 hours sleep overall. It was an extremely lonely experience, giving everyone time to think and realise how hard it would, be to have no option but to do this every night."

From his participation in the event, James raised £838.75 with Gift Aid. However, it’s not too late to sponsor him, should you wish to, you can do so here -
